As the 2007-08 presidential campaign cycle offered up the usual slate of Washington insiders, Ron Paul, an obscure Congressman from Texas brought an alternative voice that challenged the political establishment.
Advocating a philosophy of sound money, a non-interventionist foreign policy, strict Constitutionalism, and individual liberty, Dr. Paul inspired a unique grassroots movement unmatched in American history - the repercussions of which continue to reverberate today and into the future of the American psyche.
For Liberty: How the Ron Paul Revolution Watered the Withered Tree of Liberty follows this historic campaign from the perspective of grassroots activists, and showcases the unique, often bizarre, yet groundbreaking projects they undertook as they brushed aside traditional campaign methodology. For Liberty features an all star cast of grassroots leaders, organizers, activists, authors, talk show hosts, musicians, media experts, historians, artists, and more.
VENUE: We are pleased to present this screening at Regency’s Historic Lido Theatre. The Lido is located on Via Lido, just off Newport Boulevard as you cross over to Balboa Peninsula in Newport Beach. Opened in 1938, this theatre was built in a time when going to the movies was a more glamorous affair. The Lido seats 600, of which 400 seats are downstairs and 200 are in balcony. The ladies room has a sitting parlor, at Bette Davis’ request. The Lido has a waterfall red velvet curtain that rises with each show, and no pre-show advertisements are allowed by the owners. But a most stunning feature is in the auditorium, where black light illuminates the wall paintings of ocean scenes. Regency has also put in a sound system that is rated one of the best in Southern California, and even sound engineers rave about it.
TICKETS: The ticket price is a flat-rate $10, at the box office. If you live near Newport Beach, feel free to drop by the theatre and purchase tickets at your leisure. The box office is usually staffed 15 minutes prior to the theatre's normally scheduled movies. For your convenience, we’re offering online ticketing and billing for this screening. Paypal handles the billing, but you don't need to have a Paypal account to use your credit card. You can pay using PayPal, Debit Card or Credit Card (Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and American Express). Due to online ticketing and billing fees, we’re asking for an extra $1 per ticket, to help defray part of these costs. For those purchasing tickets online, you should receive 2 emails confirming your purchase. One from Eventsbot for your reservation, and the other from Paypal confirming your purchase. Please bring printouts of these confirmation emails, as they represent your e-ticket.
BOX OFFICE: On the morning of the screening, the box office will open at 9:45AM, or earlier depending on demand. If you’re planning on purchasing tickets at the theatre on the morning of the screening, then please arrive early.
PARKING: There is ample FREE parking just past the theatre (on Via Lido), in the Via Lido Plaza Parking Lot. This parking lot is actually split into east and west lots surrounding a Vons Pavilions. If the lot you’re in fills up, then drive to the back, and to the other lot. There is metered street parking and a parking structure nearby, but we don’t recommend them since they aren't free.
